Living a Distilled Life

Posted by catherine in Blog on 29. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

When I set out to start this blog, I had one objective: to stash my beloved recipes online.   I spent a lot of hours learning how to set up a site, learn blogging software, and attempt to set up something that looks fairly easy to read.
Once my site was up and running, I began [...]

French Bread Pizza

Posted by catherine in Main Dishes, Recipes on 26. Jul, 2010 | 1 Comment

Let’s file this recipe under “so simple my kids could make it.”  One of said kids attempted here to take an action shot and accidentally lopped off my head.  But I’m feeling much better, thanks for asking.
I remember having this version of pizza growing up.  Today, it’s a nice way to reconnect with my childhood [...]

Dipiddee – American Fork

Posted by catherine in Buy Utah on 20. Jul, 2010 | 3 Comments

I’ve read so much lately about the big cupcake craze.  Apparently this month is cupcake awareness month or something like that.  Since I am not a huge cake fan, I generally stay away from them.  But a few months ago, a dear friend bought me a cupcake from Dippidee for my birthday, complete with box [...]

Home Run Stainless Steel Appliance Cleaner

Posted by catherine in Blog, Healthy Home on 19. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

Here I present Exhibit A, my smudgy dishwasher.
The culprits? Three kids, including a grabby toddler.  Also to blame: dirty feet kicking the dishwasher shut (don’t ask).

Maybe you have used an ammonia-based window spray on your stainless appliances.  It was my go-to solution but it somehow never looked very nice.  Clean, but streaky.

See?

Avocados

Posted by catherine in Ingredients on 15. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

This vegetable (fruit?) used to scare me with its huge pit in the middle and green flesh.  With experience and an open mind, my fears have calmed down.  Here are some tips for selecting and preparing, complete with handy dandy pictures.
1. Selecting: choose dark green-almost-brown avocados that have a slightly squishy feel to them.  Think [...]

Cool product alert – ClearPlay

Posted by catherine in Blog, Buy Utah, Random Thoughts on 14. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

Once again, I hesitate posting another commercial product, so I’ll put this out there again: if a product rocks, I have a hard time resisting the urge to share with the universe.  I would be a great salesperson except that my enthusiasm also has a dark side: I will trash a product with as much [...]

Wordless Wednesday

Posted by catherine in Blog, Random Thoughts on 14. Jul, 2010 | 3 Comments

I have no idea what this is all about, but from the other blogs I’ve been reading I think it has something to do with posting pictures only.  Oops.  I think I just broke a rule.

Chicken tortilla rolls

Posted by catherine in Appetizers, Main Dishes on 11. Jul, 2010 | 1 Comment

This recipe was born from frequent trips to the local Chicken Crazy (translate that into Espanol).  One of my favorite snacks from this place has simply a tortilla, chicken and cheese.  And a very delicious dipping sauce that I will one day master making at home.
But my favorite snack runs about $2.  Not terribly [...]

Staying well

Posted by catherine in Blog, Random Thoughts, Wellness on 11. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

How I like to stay healthy is easy to describe, hard to follow.  But I keep the rules uncomplicated since I’m a simple girl myself.
1. Exercise.  I have always like to stay active.  Over the years this meant becoming certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor.  I enjoy helping others in [...]

Waffles

Posted by catherine in Breakfast on 10. Jul, 2010 | No Comments

I heart waffles.  I do not heart waffle mixes.  They always taste chemically to me (is chemically a respectable adverb?  I should probably know that).
The above dilemma led me to scour the internet. Fortunately, I found one that darn near reaches perfection.  I could not resist my added touch, of course.
You will have [...]
